Youth News Week 8 – 2019

“Jesus Christ, the God-Man, was born in a manger and is spiritually reborn on the altar. He suffered on Calvary and continues to offer Himself on the altar. In His earthly life, He spread His teaching and worked miracles among the crowds. In the Eucharist, He spans the centuries and communicates Himself to all.” St John Chrysostom

This week at Chosen we learned about the Advent and Christmas seasons. We learned about Our Lady of Guadalupe whose feast day is celebrated on Dec 12th and about her appearance to St Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531. We learned about Juan Diego’s virtues of humility, obedience, charity and trust. We also sang happy (belated) birthday to Father Stephen and played basketball. Students from Gr. 5 to 8 are invited to join us Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30pm at St Mary’s School.

“I want a laity… who know their religion, who enter into it, who know just where they stand, who know what they hold and what they do not, who know their creed so well that they can give an account of it, who know so much of history that they can defend it. I want an intelligent, well-instructed laity – I wish [them] to enlarge [their] knowledge, to cultivate [their] reason, to get an insight into the relation of truth to truth, to learn to view things as they are, to understand how faith and reason stand to each other, what are the bases and principles of Catholicism.” Blessed (soon to be declared Saint) John Henry Newman

On Friday Feb 15th we hosted our first Veritas gathering of young adults. We watched a video clip from Father Mike Schmitz, had some good discussion, enjoyed pizza, a game of volleyball (for pictures see our Facebook page) and closed our night together in prayer in the church. Thanks to all who joined us! We look forward to our next meeting; details to follow next week.
