Youth News Week 16 – 2019

Jesus freely offered Himself for our salvation. Beforehand, during the Last Supper, He both symbolized this offering and made it really present: “This is my body which is given for you.” CCC 621

This week at Chosen we learned about the “Great Three Days”; Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday – The Triduum. This is the holiest and most sacred time in the liturgical year in which we anticipate and prepare for the “Feast of feasts”, the” Solemnity of solemnities” (CCC1169) – Easter Sunday! We learned that on Holy Thursday we celebrate three great events in our Church – Passover, the Institution of the Eucharist and the Institution of the Priesthood. Next, we learned that on Good Friday we commemorate Christ’s Passion and Death on the Cross. We learned that this day is called Good because on this day Christ died to free us from sin and open to us the gates of eternal life. Finally, we learned that on Holy Saturday, just as the women waited at the tomb of Our Lord, we also are called to wait in silence and remain hopeful that Christ’s promises to us will be fulfilled. To close our evening, we fasted from play and instead spent time in the Church praying the Stations of the Cross. Students in Gr 5 to 8 are invited to join us next Tuesday evening when we will learn about the day St. Athanasius calls “the Great Sunday”. CHOSEN begins at 7pm at St Mary’s School.

“There is an urgent need for the emergence of a new generation of apostles anchored firmly in the word of Christ, capable of responding to the challenges of our times and prepared to spread the Gospel far and wide.” Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

Thanks to all those who joined us for prayer, discussion and fellowship on Friday evening. Our next young adult group gathering will take place Friday, April 26th. More details to follow.
