Go Fund Me Campaigns are NOT PERMITTED

Can. 1265 §1. Without prejudice to the right of religious mendicants, any private person, whether physical or juridic, is forbidden to beg for alms for any pious or ecclesiastical institute or purpose without the written permission of that person’s own ordinary and of the local ordinary.

Go Fund Me campaigns are typically related to causes that have some personal urgency example the costs to commute for cancer treatments, etc. The Diocese, its Parishes or a Parishioner shall not initiate these types of campaigns. From a perception position, potential fraud situation(s) along with insurance concerns, the Diocese does not allow these types of campaigns.
