The poor among us in Canada are: Aboriginal people whose traditional community supports have been eroded along with their hunting and fishing habitats, single parents who try valiantly to raise their children as citizens with more promise and possibility than they have experienced, migrant workers who are forced by free trade to leave their homes, families, and traditional livelihoods to search for a meagre income under treacherous conditions.
