Obituary for Fr. Raymond Hart

HART, Fr. Raymond J. – entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 15,2016 at Extendicare Kawartha Lakes in Lindsay.
Fr. Hart was born at Prospect Place, Colborne, Ontario and was the son of the late Frank 1. and Mary Hart (nee Young).
Graduating from Colborne High School, he entered St. Augustine’s Seminary and was ordained in St. Peter’s Cathedral, Peterborough, May 19th, 1951.
He served as a curate in St. Peter’s, Parry Sound and St. Mary’s, Lindsay and took higher education in Washington and Toronto teaching for three years at St. Peter’s High School in Peterborough.
He served as a Pastor in many parishes including St. Peter’s, Parry Sound, St. Alphonsus, Wooler, Holy Angels, Brighton, St. Joseph’s/St. Aloysius in BobcaygeoniFenelon Falls, St. Patrick’s, Kinmount and finished his active ministry in St. Mary’s Lindsay.
Fr. Hart was known for his joie de vivre, his elan with youth and his ability to reach across denominational barriers and befriend almost everyone who knew him.
An avid sportsman, he worked with many young people on numerous outdoor rinks and knew every golf course. Fr. Hart was aficionado of poetry and quoting it with verve and expertise. His guitar was never far from hand and he welcomed any occasion to sing and lead a round of “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands”.
Fr. Hart was truly a disciple of the joy of Jesus Christ and showed the love and mercy of the Lord in all of his priestly ministry.
Having out lived his siblings, John (Jack), William (Bill), Paul, Kathryn O’Gorman and Ann Casey, he leaves his many nieces and nephews across the country mourning the loss of their Uncle Ray.
His wake is at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 40 Russell Street East, Lindsay on Friday, February 19 from 2-9 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Bishop William McGrattan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, February 20 at 10:00 A.M. Cremation to follow with private interment later at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Grafton.
