Pope Benedict XVI’s Resignation

As we all know our Pontiff Benedict XVI has announced his resignation of the See of St. Peter, Bishop of Rome, to be effective Feb. 28 at 8 pm Rome time.

It will be immediately followed by a call to all the eligible cardinal-electors – approximately 117 – to meet in Rome for an election. This is called a conclave.

The Pope has given his life to the Church as a priest, theologian, bishop, head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and Pontiff.

Because of declining health and strength he has made his decision “for the good of the Church”. Please make a special effort to pray for him this Lent.

Also pray for the College of Cardinals that they will be guided by the Holy Spirit in their choice of our new spiritual leader.
