BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS The concept of the Jubilee Year originates from Leviticus 25:8-55, where God commands the Israelites to celebrate a year of Jubilee every fifty years. This time is marked by rest for the land, release of slaves, and the return of land to its original owners and debts are forgiven. Key passages such as Isaiah 61:1-2 and Luke 4:18-19 highlight themes of freedom, mercy, and redemption.
JUBILEE PILGRIMAGE PASSPORT & PAMPHLET In celebration of the Jubilee Year of Hope the Diocese of Peterborough has designed a Jubilee Pilgrimage Passport. Please find the passports at the back of the church and you are invited to collect a sticker from each of the 4 designated pilgrim churches. These passports will also be available at the designated churches and can be downloaded from the Diocesan website https://www.peterboroughdiocese.org/en/get-involved/jubilee-year-2025-pilgrimage-churches.aspx Also at the back of the church are the Jubilee pamphlet. A booklet of prayers and explanations about the Jubilee Year of Hope.
JUBILEE EVENT – 24 HOUR ADORATION At the request of the Bishop, Friday March 7th, we will have a 24 hour Adoration at St. Mary’s Church as part of the Year of the Jubilee of Hope. The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed during the Masses during the 24 hour period.
Eucharistic Adoration is a Catholic devotion dating back to the early days of the Church. It involves placing the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance for public veneration, allowing people to come and pray in the presence of Jesus Christ. Adoration will begin on Friday March 7 at 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon Saturday March 8. At that time, we close the adoration with benediction.
There are sign up sheets at the back of the church. We need a minimum of 2 people in the church at all times. We ask that men in particular sign up for the hours through the night.
JUBILEE BOOKLET The Cathedral has created a Jubilee booklet which contains prayers, resources, reflections, and guidance. Copies are in the back of the church.
