If you follow Catholic news services, you may have heard that Pope Francis consecrated Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As I announced we did the consecration in union with the Pope. You may not know why this was emphasized. Older Catholics remember that we were praying years for the conversion of Russia following the request of Our Lady of Fatima, who said Russia would “spread her errors throughout the world.” Many assumed this was because Russia was spreading communism. When communism seemed to subside, many stopped the prayers. Sadly, we know communism continues to spread, even in the Church, and Russia spreads her errors of totalitarian statehood. I would recommend then taking up again the First Five Saturday devotions that Our Lady of Fatima urgently requested us to do. This includes receiving communion, going to confession, praying a rosary, and meditating an additional 15 minutes on a mystery of the rosary. Along with further sacrifices. April 9th we have a reconciliation day, which would be a good opportunity to start. See the brochures in the Church.
