Youth News Week 19 – 2019

“Through Baptism each child is inserted into a gathering of friends who never abandon him in life or in death… This group of friends, this family of God, into which the child is now admitted, will always accompany him, even on days of suffering and in life’s dark nights; it will give him consolation, comfort, and light.” Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI – YOUCAT#193

This week at Chosen we began a new unit entitled “Transformation”. In this unit, we will learn about the power of the Sacraments to renew us through God’s gift of grace – to build us up and make us holy. Specifically, we will learn about the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. These sacraments “lay the foundations of every Christian life.” (CCC1212) Our Baptism is the first step in our Christian life and it opens the door for all the other sacraments. We also learned the scriptural foundations of Baptism in both the Old and New Testaments. We had fun playing games and enjoyed a “milk and honey” snack. Students in Gr 5-8, please join us Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30pm at St Mary’s School.

“Friends are for our growth in health, happiness, and holiness on this earth in order to better prepare us to share together the gift of eternal life in heaven.” St Francis de Sales

Now that many of our Fleming students have finished their studies, we have decided to break from our regularly scheduled Veritas group gatherings. We will resume in September. In the meantime, we will continue to publish updates on any special events to be held during the summer months. We wish all of our young adults a safe spring and summer as you finish your studies and transition into summer jobs. May all of you take time in the coming months for some rest and relaxation once the warm weather is upon us!

March for Life, OttawaThurs May 9th our young people will be travelling to Ottawa. Please pray for us as we make this important journey to our nation’s capital to join with thousands of other Canadians in defending the sacredness of life from the moment of conception to natural death. Once again, we wish to thank each and every one of you who contributed to our fundraising campaign! May God reward you for your generosity!

Theology of the Body Conference – Will be held at Wayside School on Sat May 25th from 9:30am-4pm. This event, for those aged 13-18, will include talks on St John Paul’s teaching about love and responsibility. Join us in learning that true joy and real love can only be found when we live in a way worthy of our great dignity, having been created in God’s image and likeness.
