Youth News Week 17 – 2019

“The Holy Shroud is the most splendid relic of the Passion and Resurrection [of Our Lord Jesus Christ]… the mirror of the Gospel…in the Man of the Shroud God’s infinite love speaks to every human heart.” St John Paul II

In order to try to draw closer to Christ during Holy Week, we watched a movie about the Shroud of Turin and learned about its history and what science has revealed about its authenticity. We also spent time in anticipation of the great Solemnity of Easter Sunday as we learned that at Easter everything changes… “Behold, I make all things new.” Rev 21:5. The glory of the resurrected Christ will be seen in the priest’s white vestments, in the beautiful lilies and flowers which adorn the altar and in the radiant colours of gold and white! We learned that the joyful season of Easter extends fifty days, which includes the celebration of Christ’s Ascension into heaven, and will conclude with the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. To finish our evening, we turned our attention back to Our Lord’s Passion with time for prayer in the church. Next Chosen we will celebrate Easter! Students Gr 5-8, join us Tues evenings at 7pm at St Mary’s School.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Veritas – Our next young adult group gathering will take place Friday, April 26th when we will be having a social outing. Details to follow.

Theology of the Body Conference – will be held at Wayside School on Sat May 25th from 9:30am-4pm. This event, for those aged 13-18, will include talks on St John Paul’s teaching about love and responsibility.
