Youth News Week 49 – 2018

“Love everyone with a deep love based on charity… but form friendships only with those who can share virtuous things with you. The higher the virtues you share and exchange with others, the more perfect your friendship will be.” St. Francis de Sales

This week at Chosen we learned about the importance of faithful friendships in our journey toward heaven. We talked about what faithful friends do – they love us for who we are, are willing to help in our time of need, encourage us and help us to be virtuous and good. We also learned that to be a faithful friend one must be trustworthy, caring, forgiving and willing to make sacrifices. To do all of this, and be the best friend we can be, we need the help of God’s grace. We need to go to Sunday Mass and to confession regularly and we need to pray for our friends. God gives us our friends so that we can help each other get to heaven and the best way to do this is to pray for and with our friends. We also had fun maneuvering through an obstacle course blindfolded! This activity allowed us to consider the fact that life sometimes presents us with obstacles and difficulties and our friends help and support us as we pass through these times of struggle. Finally, we closed our evening in the church thanking God for the gift of friendship and we recited a beautiful prayer to Our Lady for the needs of our friends! We have two events planned prior to our break for Christmas…On Dec 4th we are going bowling. This will be a combined activity with the high school group (see details below). On Dec 18th, we will make a visit to Extendicare and Lakelands Village Nursing Home for an evening of fun. A big “thank you” to the Chosen group for baking treats to take along for the residents on our visit.

High school youth are invited to join us for an evening of fun and friendly competition at Strike Point Bowling Alley from 7-9pm on Tuesday, December 4th. Those interested, please call Teresa at the Parish Office 705 324 4828 or email youth@stmaryslindsay.ca to register.
