Christmas Social

On December 17 everyone is invited to the VEYO Christmas Social on Saturday.

This holiday shindig will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 317 Hunter Street W., Peterborough, beginning at 6:30 pm.

Potluck supper, live music, dancing, karaoke, games and fun for the whole family!

Formal attire is optional!

This is a great way to reconnect with people from past VEYO events, groups, thank our hard working volunteers and also the parents of our young people.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – A FEW GOOD LISTENERS TELECARE LINDSAY is a volunteer agency offering a caring, confidential and empathetic telephone listening service to anyone in need in our community. We provide a telephone distress line to support those in personal or relationship difficulties.

In addition, we provide reassurance calls to many individuals in this community.

An extensive (12 weeks, one evening per week) training course prepares volunteers to be a telephone “listener”.

The next training session for volunteers begins Sept. 12.

St. Mary’s Volunteer Screening

The Parish is working to put a Volunteer Management process called Responsible Faith Ministry at the request of the Diocese of Peterborough and the Ontario Conference of Catholic Bishops. This management process will fulfill requirements of current legislation in Ontario and requirements of Catholic Mutual Insurance. Phase 1 is to be completed by December, 2010.

Each Volunteer is screened only once by the Parish. Volunteer Screening Kits have been prepared and are unique to each ministry. If you are a volunteer for one of the Ministries listed below and have not yet been screened, please pick up one of the volunteer kits from the tables at the back of the Church.

St. Vincent de Paul Volunteers
Ministers of the Eucharist to the Sick

Sunday July 4th

World Youth Day Strawberry Social Fundraiser!

Held at St. Mary’s Church Parking Lot after the 9 and 11 am Sunday masses!

Need volunteers to serve, prepare strawberries, set up/clean up, etc. All proceeds will help us go to WYD 11! Also, Rebels for Christ is asking St. Mary’s Parishioners to donate any of the following items for the Strawberry Social:

Broccoli Salad

Bean Salad

Macaroni Salad

Devilled eggs

And any other Specialty Salads or appetizers!

The more the better because we usually serve about 150 in total Sunday morning.

Thank you in advance for your help in sending us to the next World Youth Day to see Pope Benedict in August 2011!

First Communion
Thanks to all the parents who donated food, and to the CWL for the beautiful cakes. The coffee hour ladies appreciated all the help that they received. Thank you again.

Fish Fry
Thanks to everyone for supporting, donating and enjoying the Fish Fry and Silent Auction. What a wonderful evening for all. We made a profit of $1,588.91 from the fish fry and donations made by parishioners to the Restoration Fund, and around $1200.00 to the Youth for World Youth Day. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped. See you in the fall.

SHARE LENT WORKSHOP:
January 23rd. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
St. Alphonsus Church. 1066 Western Ave., Peterborough. Come & learn more about D&P and how you can help to make this our Best Share Lent ever No charge. Solidarity lunch included.

‘MOVIE & DESSERT’:
Saturday February 28th. at 2 p.m. in St.Mary’s School Gym.
Bring your favourite dessert & watch the movie ‘Food Inc.’ an eye-opening expose of the modern food industry. A must see for health-conscious individuals.

FAIR TRADE COFFEE:
Anyone wishing to order Fair Trade coffee, tea or hot chocolate please call: Dan at 786-1247 or Loretta at 878-0894

POSTAGE STAMPS:
Please save used postage stamps to help generate revenue for D&P. Place stamps in this box marked ‘Stamps’ at the main church entrance, to send to D&P office in Montreal. Volunteers sort the stamps & then place them in auctions. Last March $7,268.00 was earned. This money goes to help our partners in the south who are very much in need of assistance especially with the economic slowdown.
