World Youth Day Strawberry Social Fundraiser!

Held at St. Mary’s Church Parking Lot after the 9 and 11 am Sunday masses! 

Need volunteers to serve, prepare strawberries, set up/clean up, etc.  All proceeds will help us go to WYD 11!  Also, Rebels for Christ is asking St. Mary’s Parishioners to donate any of the following items for the Strawberry Social:

Broccoli Salad                                                     

Bean Salad

Macaroni Salad

Devilled eggs

And any other Specialty Salads or appetizers!

The more the better because we usually serve about 150 in total Sunday morning. 

Thank you in advance for your help in sending us to the next World Youth Day to see Pope Benedict in August 2011!

Fish Fry
Thanks to everyone for supporting, donating and enjoying the Fish Fry and Silent Auction. What a wonderful evening for all. We made a profit of $1,588.91 from the fish fry and donations made by parishioners to the Restoration Fund, and around $1200.00 to the Youth for World Youth Day. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped. See you in the fall.

SSVP has invited officer Dianna Brown to talk to us about changes in the law regarding volunteers interactions in the community and observations witnessed. If you have questions please attend.

‘MOVIE & DESSERT’:
Saturday February 28th. at 2 p.m. in St.Mary’s School Gym.
Bring your favourite dessert & watch the movie ‘Food Inc.’ an eye-opening expose of the modern food industry. A must see for health-conscious individuals.

POSTAGE STAMPS:
Please save used postage stamps to help generate revenue for D&P. Place stamps in this box marked ‘Stamps’ at the main church entrance, to send to D&P office in Montreal. Volunteers sort the stamps & then place them in auctions. Last March $7,268.00 was earned. This money goes to help our partners in the south who are very much in need of assistance especially with the economic slowdown.

On Sunday November 15th, St. Mary’s Youth will be having a World Youth Day Fundraising Sausage and Pancake Brunch after the 9 and 11am masses. All of the proceeds will go towards our goal to raise $30 000 which will cover approximately half of the cost to send 20 pilgrims to see the Pope at World Youth Day 2011 Madrid Spain. We still need volunteers to help in the kitchen, to sell tickets, and to serve tables.

The first youth meeting will take place this Sunday (Oct. 18th) after the 11 am Mass at the Youth Office which is located inside St. Mary’s rectory (40 Russell St. E).  Lunch will be provided free of charge and Fr. Tom will be joining us.  Let me know if you need transportation. 

Things to think about before the meeting:

- how to register a Catholic group at Fleming (Frost Campus)?  posters and room rental?  mass on campus?
- steps for setting up Theology on Tap in Lindsay.
- volunteers needed to decorate for Halloween dance fundraiser
- Trick or Eat Peterborough (Who wants to attend?  This is a great event.  Transportation provided.)
-  Movies and screening space at Frost Campus.
-  Christian/Catholic Christmas Formal in Peterborough (who wants to attend?)
- Sports at Fleming or elsewhere (Catholic intramural team?)
- Anyone interested in attending WYD 11 Madrid Spain?  (Volunteers needed for fundraising.)

If you can think of anything else that should be covered at the meeting let me know and I will add it to the agenda.

Please check the bulletin boards of the Church for information regarding the Adopt-A-Family Program. The forms will be available soon for those of the Parish who wish to sponsor a needy family.

A reminder that on October 17th volunteers will be going door to door in Lindsay to collect food. Please place your donation of food in a bag placed outside your door by 9 am on Saturday. Anyone wishing to help please come to the CHURCH OF THE LATTER DAY SAINTS by 8:30 am to receive instructions. Thank for your support in feeding the less fortunate of our community. Thank you! Every we begin a new parish year and once again it is time to ask: are you ready and willing to help in one of the various parish ministries?

We can certainly use more readers, eucharistic ministers, altar servers, ushers, and singers for the folk choir and 11:00 choir, and people to help with children’s liturgy.
