Working to End Inequality in Paraguay
This week our pilgrimage travels to Paraguay where we meet Liz Benitez. Her country is one where 1% of the land owners hold 77% of arable land. Liz’s family are part of a peasant movement supported by Development and Peace who work to gain access to land for the poorest farmers in the country, the campesinos. They have been threatened by the state and police because of their work. “I just want to live peacefully with my family,” she says. This year consider stretching your Share Lent donation across the whole year with our Share Year-Round monthly giving program.
Development and Peace is pleased to welcome Ary Regis, a radio announcer from Haiti, who broadcasts in Haiti for the SAKS Foundation. This organization, which is one of D&P’s partners, delivers community radio to Haitians who do not have access to newspapers, public television, or internet, including those affected by the 2010 earthquake. SAKS also provides training for youth and adults in communication and journalism techniques.
Please join us to hear Ary’s story. Event date: Saturday, March 5. Location: Immaculate Conception Parish Hall, 386 Rogers St. Peterborough. Time: 7-8:30 p.m.
