Sow Much Love is the theme for this years Development and Peace Campaign. There are so many things we don’t know about the food we eat when, where and how it is produced. Are the workers getting paid a fair wage for their labour? Are the farmers forced to use chemicals, pesticides they don’t want to use? They know it is destroying their soil and water! Are they being forced to buy genetically modified seeds which they are forced to buy every year?
New models of development are needed, those which help small scale farmers produce enough food for themselves and enough to sell. This requires wealthy countries like ours to change our lifestyles and reduce our disproportionate consumption of our world’s goods.
Come on November 2 to St. Mary’s Hall 2-4 p.m. to learn more and to hear a local small scale farmer who is doing her part to farm ecologically. Presentation is followed by a poverty meal of rice, lentils and beans. Free will offering.
