This year D&P will be focusing on the Food Crisis. With the economic slowdown many more people will go hungry especially in the global south. D&P with it’s partner organizations, including the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, will be promoting the right of all people to have access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs.
Unfortunately the increase in food prices has not reflected an increase in wages to farmers but has drastically increased the profits of a few large corporations – turning food into a commodity rather than a fundamental right.
It is felt that encouraging & supporting local farm initiatives is the way to alleviate many of the problems that exist & make food available for all. ‘BUY LOCALLY’
