Update on Rectory Repairs

Over the Christmas holidays the fascia, flashing and some eaves troughs were repaired at a cost of approximately $22,000.

Not only is there better protection but the pigeons are gone too.

The bathroom in pastor’s suite has been finished. This was needed because of leaking pipes. Other than one plumber’s visit and materials, this was all done by the labour and skills of our volunteer St. Joseph’s Workers.

Sections of the pastor’s office were badly damaged by the leaks and the workers are repairing them over the next few weeks.

As well you will see painting and small repairs being done at the Church.

Nursing Home Masses

As you can see in the Mass schedule we generally arrange the Nursing Home Masses are in the first full week of the month.

You are certainly welcome to attend any or all of them but you should realize that sometimes in the winter months a facility will cancel a Mass on very short notice because of outbreaks of flu or other illnesses.

We are always looking for help to assist at these Masses to help Nursing Home residents be brought down from their rooms to the Mass itself.

The CWL would like to thank all those who participated in our Christmas Bazaar. Our profit for the day was $2111.29 Items not sold were distributed to groups who assist with emergency housing and helping children to have small gifts for parents for Christmas.

Father Charlie’s Farewell Party
Join us at 12:00pm on Sunday Feb. 19 to celebrate Father Charlie’s Retirement. Everyone is welcome.

CWL’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday Feb. 26 at 12:00 noon. Join us for a light lunch, meet your new executive and participate in a short business meeting. All women of the parish are welcome.

SSVP Thanks

Thank you to all who supported the SSVP Christmas programs in any way, to brighten the festive season for 150 needy families in our area. 236 adults and 261 children had a happier and more plentiful holiday because of your generosity.

Many members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, other parishioners and friends spent countless hours to shop, organize gifts, pack food, and deliver with the kind help of the thoughtful EMS volunteers. $100 worth of food plus gifts went to the less fortunate people.

May God Bless you for sharing and caring. We certainly appreciate your continuing prayers and bountiful support.

Monday, January 16 kicks off our 17th Annual Homeless Awareness Week. As has been tradition for some time now, we will be holding a Silent Auction at The Lindsay Square Mall from the 16th to the 21st.

Auction items are pieces of fine furniture generously donated by Southern Comfort in Lindsay. In addition we will have an interactive quiz, our storybook and other informational material. We will be also taking pledges for the Polar Plunge that will be held February 5th in Bridgenorth.

This year’s plunge is dubbed ‘Freezin for a Reason’ and the theme is ‘cartoon characters’.

You won’t believe what we will have at the mall. Come out and see our surprise and make a bid on the beautiful furnishings that will be there.

A Quick Journey Through the Bible

Both the Monday Evening and Wednesday Morning sessions for the course are now filled and the registration is closed.
If numbers warrant the course may be repeated.

The Bible Study begins Monday January 16 at 7 – 8:30 in the Parish Library and Wednesday January 18 at 9:30 – 11:00 in the Chapel at the Church.

Youth and Net Ministries

The National Evangelization Team will be arriving in Lindsay this week to give retreats to our Catholic school students.

They will be in St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Monday January 9th to give retreats for the grade 11 and 12′s and they will be giving a retreat for grade 7 students at St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School on Tuesday January 10th.

We are excited to have this dynamic and engaging group of young people in our Parish for these two days as they enrich the spiritual lives of our young people using music, games, skits, prayer and personal testimonies.
