Once again it is time to nominate members of the Parish for election to the Parish Council. Currently serving on the Council are Olga Everson (Parish Finance Council), Gary Byrnes (Knights of Columbus), Dorothy Carroll (Development and Peace and other parish organizations), Mary Eleanor Henley (Liturgy), and Becky Bloom (Youth/Young Adults). One member is still needed from the CWL. Currently, Larry McLaughlin and Kathy Boyle’s terms have finished. We would like to thank them for their service. Stacey Meenan has one more year left to complete her elected term.

We are asking for nominations for the two elected positions. It is a 2-year term and the Parish Council meets approximately 5 times a year.

Nominations forms are in the pews. Please do not nominate a person who is already on the executive for a parish group. Put the nominations in the collection baskets.

There will be two weeks for nominations and we will try to have the vote on June 2-3

Mothers are everything for us when we are small…our lives revolve around her. For everything that we need we call mother. To protect us from all perceivable dangers we want her around us. To take us out we hold her arms. To kiss away our wounds we run to her. And for a warm hug and love we look for her. She is the focal point of our lives, the greatest human being in the world or should we say divinity on earth. On the special occasion of Mothers Day pay tribute to your mother – the greatest blessing of God on you.

God the Father, through his Son, the Virgin Mary’s child, has brought joy to all Christian Mothers, as they see the hope of eternal life shine on their children. May he bless the mother of His child. She now thanks God for the gift of her child. May she be one with him (her) in thanking him for ever in heaven, in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

A NOTE ON THE FUTURE DIRECTIONS OF THE SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH OF PETERBOROUGH

After four years of prayer and discernment, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton, London, Pembroke and Peterborough are exploring a closer union with each other. The new name would be “the Congregation of St. Joseph.” We have petitioned Rome for permission to do this and are awaiting a reply. In the meantime, we are working on many details involved in such a union and ask for your prayers and support as we continue to discern how the Sisters of St. Joseph can best serve God, God’s people and the Church.

Maybe you have seen in the last few weeks one of the more startling sights in the skies. High up in the clear night you can see one of the brightest lights – Venus. Though known by many names one of its most ancient names is the Morning Star. Through the odd rules of astronomy, it never seems to set. The early Christians took this as a symbol of Christ himself.

Though we may feel that God is distant from us, Christ is never truly distant from us. During the Easter vigil when all the Church is still dark and we stand holding our candles lit from the Easter Candle, the priest sings the Exsultet (the Easter Proclamation). After going through the history of salvation it ends on the ringing certainty, “Christ that Morning Star who never sets, Christ your Son, who, coming back from death’s domain, has shed his peaceful light on humanity, and lives and reigns for ever.”

What is happening in your own life? What are you struggling with? Do you feel God has gone? The gift of the Tridiuum, the Great Three Days, walks us through that valley of darkness so that we can share in the Passion of the Lord and more fully know his Resurrection

May you and your families have a Blessed and Happy Easter. We will keep you in our prayers
In Christ, Fr. Tom, Fr. Theo

On Saturday March 24, the parish is having a day of Grace and Reconciliation which will mean we will have one or two priests in the confessionals all day long from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Fathers. Bill Fellion, Craig Cruikshank, Tom, Theo and Charlie will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the Church.

Instead of a parish reconciliation service in the afternoon or evening it has been decided that we will have this approach in Lent so as to be more available to all of you to receive the Sacrament.

I invite you to take advantage of this time to know God’s grace, healing and forgiveness.

Drop in to reconnect with God as we will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament all day long to promote an atmosphere of prayer and presence.

“So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” 2 Cor.5: 20
